2012 Honda CR-V almost ready for production

2012 Honda CR-V Spy Shots

We've already gotten a fairly clear look at the next-generation Honda CR-V thanks to a few leaked patent drawings and the unveiling of the CR-V Concept, but our friendly neighborhood spy photographer managed to snap a few photos of the real deal out and about in the South of France for a little testing. We can clearly see the more stylized nose, complete with its swept front fascia and broad three-bar grille. While the extensive cladding does a smart job of hiding the D-pillar from prying eyes, it's easy to imagine the redesigned look of the roof structure from the patent sketches.

Don't expect to see much in the way of revolutionary engine options when the production model gets a full-unveil at the LA Auto Show. The same 2.4-liter four-cylinder is said to stick around for next year, mated to a new six-speed automatic gearbox.

2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas priced from $26,155*

2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas

The totally redesigned 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas (formerly known as the Civic GX), America's only natural gas-burning passenger vehicle, will hit Honda dealerships nationwide on October 18 with a starting MSRP $26,155, (*excluding a $750 destination fee). Add in navigation, and the Civic Natural Gas tops out at $27,655 plus $750 for delivery.

A modified version of the 1.8-liter four-cylinder found in the gas-fueled 2012 Civic Sedan and Coupe powers the Civic Natural Gas; a five-speed automatic transmission is standard. The Civic Natural Gas is EPA-rated at 27 city/38 highway/31 combined miles per gasoline-gallon equivalent. Compared against the 2011 Civic GX, the 2012 Natural Gas delivers a 12.5-percent improvement in city fuel efficiency and a 5.5-percent bump on the highway.

But here's the crucial question: How does the Civic Natural Gas stack up against its green sibling, the Civic Hybrid? Well, the Civic Hybrid starts at $24,800, so it's cheaper than the Natural Gas Civic and, at an EPA-estimated 44 mpg in all driving conditions, the gas-electric version is more fuel efficient. But for residents of California, where unlimited access to HOV lanes adds thousands of dollars to a car's value, the Honda Civic Natural Gas Civic might still be the logical choice. Hit the jump for the official press blast.

Honda: Blue Skies for our Children

On June 20, Honda set a goal to reduce CO2 emissions from the company's global products by 30 percent by the end of 2020 compared to year 2000 levels. At that time, Honda introduced the new global environmental symbol as a visual representation of the company's proactive commitment to make progress in its environmental efforts on a global basis. The symbol also reflects Honda's efforts to become the leader in the area of environmental and energy technologies. The circular graphic represents the earth and sun with blue skies (clean air), clean water, and lush green land expressing the bounty of nature that is necessary to realize a sustainable society where people can enjoy life. The white line through the middle represents a road where freedom of mobility is realized, while the heart represents Honda's thinking and passion toward our environmental commitment.

Honda reaffirms Ridgeline will stick around

2012 Honda Ridgeline Sport

The Detroit News reports that the Honda Ridgeline isn't going anywhere any time soon. Sage Marie, manager of truck product planning at Honda, has said that the rumors of the vehicle's demise have been greatly exaggerated, and he says that the Ridgeline serves a key role in the company's product line. Marie also said that the truck will continue on into the foreseeable future. That's despite the fact that the model has seen its sales implode over the past few months. According to The Detroit News, Honda only managed to sell 6,500 Ridgeline models through the first nine months of this year.

Last year, the company sold 12,700 units during the same period.

While some of that drop can be attributed to production delays tied to the earthquake and tsunami disasters in Japan earlier this year, it's difficult to discern how much of the blame lies on a tired product or the continued improvement of fuel economy numbers on full-size trucks. Marie confirms that 2012 will see new aesthetic updates added to the Ridgeline along with the addition of the new Sport model pictured above.

Rendered Speculation: Honda Civic Type R... turbo?

A new report says the next generation Honda Civic Type R should arrive in 2013 - sporting a turbocharged engine for the first time.

According to Auto Express, this hottest Honda hatch will brandish a Mugen-developed, 210-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbo four. When we last reported on Mugen, their engineers were boring and stroking the 2010 Civic Type R to develop 256 naturally aspirated horsepower.

Temple of VTEC purists can thank strict European emissions regulations for the move to forced induction, and Auto Express says that the Type R will receive a start-stop system to further conserve fuel. Honda fan boys will still have plenty to get excited about: A six-speed manual tranny with a short-throw shifter, track-ready suspension, and a whole complement of aero aids. The UK-based magazine predicts 0-60 times in the low six-second range and a top speed near 150 mph.

The Type R's projected £23,000 price tag (minus the 20% national tax the Brits factor into their new car prices) would make it about a $28,000 car at today's exchange rates. But alas, since it's based on the European five-door Civic, there's virtually no chance we'll be seeing this Type R Civic on our side of the pond. For the moment, you'll have to content yourself with checking out the artist's renderings over on Auto Express.

Recycle Day at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama

Honda Manufacturing of Alabama became the first zero-waste-to-landfill auto plant in North America at the outset of production in 2001, setting off an industry-leading trend within the company. Since the establishment of zero-waste-to-landfill production in its Alabama plant in 2001, Honda has undertaken a major initiative at plants throughout the region to eliminate landfill waste. On September 24, 2011, associates at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama and area residents collected more than 15 tons of household waste for recycling during Honda's annual "Recycle Day" at the automaker's Lincoln facility.
